Living in a refugee camp, even for just several months, is one of the biggest challenges refugees face. Nakivale Refugee Settlement is home to over 171,000 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Somalia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, making it the most crowded camp in Uganda.
About Us
Who we are
New Talent for the best future, a refugee led organization based and implementing its activities in Nakivale Refugee Settlement Uganda. We strongly believe in the potentials, talents, energy that children and youths carry with themselves regardless of their origins, backgrounds or lifestyles.
We aim to develop a model that tackles challenges of the education and beyond to make learning accessible for every disadvantaged child in Nakivale Camp while actively engaging with schools, families and communities to get involved in driving innovative solutions that make the world a better place for everyone.
Why we exist
Life in Nakivale is heavy for many children and youth. Trauma, hunger, sickness, and lack of school push them into survival mode instead of growth. Many lose confidence early and stop believing their future can be different.
We exist to interrupt that pattern. To create spaces where children feel safe, heard, and supported. Where learning becomes possible again. Where talent is noticed. Where young people rebuild belief in themselves and in what they can become.
Our Journey
In 2019, a simple conversation between young people in Nakivale Refugee Settlement sparked a movement that would change lives.
It all began when some youths met on a street and started discussing their life challenges. They noticed their friends suffering from stress, trauma, hunger, and diseases. These situations were common to many of them. What started as a conversation became a place where children and youth could meet to share stories and life experiences.
These storytelling meetings became well-organized gatherings involving community leaders with no discrimination. On January 25th, 2020, out of these story-sharing sessions, we created a Community-Based Organization under the name of New Talent for the Best Future.
Today, we stand as a refugee-led organization dedicated to developing a model that tackles educational challenges and beyond, making learning accessible for every disadvantaged child in Nakivale Camp while actively engaging schools, families, and communities to drive innovative solutions.
We strongly believe in the potentials, talents, and energy that children and youth carry with themselves, regardless of their origins, backgrounds, or lifestyles.
